Lawrence “Larry” Gunda, widely known as Worshiper Larry Gunda, is a Zimbabwean gospel musician, worship leader, songwriter, composer, pastor and music director whose ministry is centred on leading people into deeper expressions of Christian worship. Born and raised in Zimbabwe, Larry’s involvement in music began during his childhood in the church and developed over the years into a ministry that has reached audiences beyond Zimbabwe. Larry’s early musical journey included serving in church choirs and youth ministry. His passion for worship eventually led him into songwriting and music leadership, and he became associated with Gospel Power, a group through which he gained recognition before establishing himself as a solo recording artist. His music combines contemporary gospel and worship with African musical influences, with songs performed in languages including Shona, English and Ndebele. As a solo artist, Larry has released a number of worship projects. His earlier work included Deeper, followed by Yahweh We Praise Vol. 1, which was released in 2020. The latter project included songs such as “Yahweh We Praise,” “Nyika YeMweya,” “Mandishanyira” and “Zvikasashamisa Haasi Mwari.” His subsequent project, Yahweh We Praise Vol. 2: The Encounter, expanded his catalogue with songs including “Hamuna Nhoroondo Yekukundikana,” “Kana Mwari Akurangarira,” “Story Changer” and “We Praise You Yahweh.” One of Larry’s notable songs is “Taura Mweya”, which received the Outstanding Invocation Song award at the Maranatha Gospel Music Awards in Kenya. His music has also received attention outside Zimbabwe, with songs appearing on gospel music charts and radio programmes in other African countries. Larry describes worship as more than musical performance. His ministry is focused on using songs to communicate faith, hope and the message of Jesus Christ, with an emphasis on creating opportunities for people to encounter God through worship. He has also identified Prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa as an important mentor in his ministry and serves as a worship leader and music director associated with United Family International Church in Zimbabwe. His ministry has continued to expand through live worship events, recordings and appearances in Zimbabwe and internationally. His official ministry website documents worship gatherings and appearances in locations including Zimbabwe, South Africa, the United Kingdom and Kenya. In addition to his recorded music, Larry continues to develop his ministry through live performances and new music releases. At the heart of Worshiper Larry Gunda’s ministry is a desire to use music as a means of drawing people closer to God. Through songwriting, worship leadership and gospel music, he continues to build a body of work focused on praise, faith, hope and the Christian message.
